DS1090U-8/V+T is a Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers. It boasts features such as low power consumption, fast switching stages, and easy integration into system designs capable of operating at temperatures ranging between -55°C to +105°C. This revolutionary device can be used for a variety of applications, including low jitter clocks and clock dividers, synthesized oscillators, fan-out drivers, and much more.
Uniquely, the DS1090U-8/V+T makes use of phase-locked loops (PLLs) and variable frequency dividers (VFDs) to generate its clock signals. Phase-locked loops are frequency control circuitry that utilizes a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and feedback divider (or divider/divider if a low pass filter is used). When the output frequency of the loop gets close to the desired frequency, the feedback divider is adjusted to bring the frequency difference back to zero. This ensures the proper frequency will be achieved and maintained.
The variable frequency divider is used to convert the PLL-generated frequency into the required output. With the help of an internal 10:1 divider, a wide range of input frequencies can be divided down to the desired output frequency. The output frequency is adjustable to cover a huge range and can be set to an accuracy of 75Hz. If a higher output frequency is required, a VFD may be used in conjunction with the PLL.
This device is also capable of providing a low noise voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) signal. The VCO is based on a third-order charge pump PLL topology which provides loop stability and low jitter. The VCO signal is then converted into a digital pulse width modulated (PWM) signal in order to produce the required frequency. The output frequency range of the device is from 10kHz to 1MHz with a maximum frequency resolution of 500Hz.
The DS1090U-8/V+T also features an integrated temperature compensation circuitry. This ensures that temperature variations are taken into account when generating the signal. This helps to maximize accuracy and consistency over time. The device also features a programmable voltage-controlled filter (VCF) that can be used to adjust the center frequency of the VCO.
The integrated clock burst function on the device allows multiple individual PLLs to be individually synchronized. Alongside the clock burst function, the device-features the up/down (U/D) sweeping functionality. This functionality allows the PLL to be automatically set to other programmable switchable frequencies. It eliminates the need for manual tuning, thus saving valuable time and cost.
