The DS1045S-4 is a synchronous, monolithic quad delay line designed to strengthen signal integrity and reduce glitches in high-speed parallel systems. This device is designed to accept four bits of synchronous data, convert them into eight differential outputs, and delay them by 0.25 to 13.75 nsec depending on the set-up time and the on-chip RC circuit. It is capable of speeds up to 20 MHz (5 nsec) with a maximum cycle time of 11 μsec. In addition, the output can be reset to either the low or the high state within 0.25 to 8.75 nsec, depending on the reset time of the circuitry.

The DS1045S-4 uses two types of delay elements: a differential transistor current source (TCTS) and a differential cascode current source (CCS). The TCTS generates a differential signal output by using the input clock signal to control the conduction of two transistors in a switch configuration. The CCS generates a differential signal output by using the input clock signal to control the conduction of two transistors in a current mirror configuration, providing better signal integrity than the TCTS. The chip also includes two oscillators, a clock driver, two reset logic circuits and several address, output enable and reset control inputs, allowing it to be used in a variety of applications.
