These Real Time Clocks are widely used in industrial, medical, automotive, and other applications where reliable time-keeping is essential.The DS1251YP-70 Real Time Clock (RTC) is a very low power integrated circuit, designed to maintain accurate time and date when powered from a medium (1.5V to 5.5V) power source. It is designed to operate from very low frequency timing sources, such as those that might be generated by a quartz oscillator. This allows for reliable operation in systems that are powered intermittently or for short periods of time.The combination of its low power operation, low power standby operation, and accuracy combine to make it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications, from metering and instrumentation, industrial and automotive systems. The DS1251YP-70 can also be used in medical, scientific, and engineering applications, such as oscilloscopes, ultrasonic equipment and medical scanners.The DS1251YP-70 features four separate banks of 32K bytes of non-volatile SRAM, a real-time clock and calendar, and a wide range of features that can be configured via I2C and SPI buses. The real-time clock (RTC) keeps track of time in seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years, while the calendar tracks the day of the week and leap years. The calendar can be set to operate in either 24-hour or 12-hour formats. The non-volatile SRAM stores user data that needs to be retained, even after power is removed.The DS1251YP-70 is designed to accurately track the current time and date, even when powered intermittently. This is achieved by using a low power oscillator, which runs at 32KHz and provides a timing source to the device.
