The DS1344E-18+, a Real Time Clock from Dallas Semiconductor, is a low power CMOS Digital Counter which can be used for different applications such as alarms and timers, industrial and consumer applications. The device provides precise timekeeping and the accuracy of its oscillator is ±20ppm or 80ppm respectively under ideal and extreme temperature conditions. It also offers a power failure detection feature which automatically switches to the battery supply when the main power is interrupted or is not available anymore.

The DS1344E-18+ consists of 128 x 8 NV SRAM and a Real Time Clock/Calendar with a built-in Crystal oscillator and battery backup. It provides a multi-function counter that can be programmed to several modes such as sleep timer, alarm, delay-on, time-on etc. It also has a built-in power-failure detector that can detect when the main power is interrupted or fails, and will then switch over to the Lithium battery.

When used as a clock, the DS1344E-18+ is capable of keeping track of both time and date. It operates on a battery supply and can count up to 99 minutes in increments of 1/10 second. It is also programmable for both 12 and 24-hour format, and can program the alarms and other events for a specified period. The device has two separate alarm outputs, one can be configured as a real-time alarm, and the other can be programmed to be activated at an arbitrary time or to repeat on a periodic basis.
