The DS1321E is a nonvolatile memory controller developed by Dallas Semiconductor. It provides an efficient and reliable way to store and manage information in a variety of applications. The device includes a NAND interface controller, a selection of NAND controller modes, an ECC engine, and an interface to the peripherals necessary to write to the NAND memory device and read the data back.The DS1321E operates by individually programming and verifying each NAND block before allowing access, which results in improved read/write performance and data integrity. It is designed to support the high endurance requirements of the latest NAND Flash technologies. It has been optimized with NAND Flash vendors to ensure optimum performance, system compatibility, and reduced power draw.To manage the NAND Flash memory efficiently, the DS1321E offers a wide selection of NAND management modes, including wear leveling and error correction. Wear leveling entails cycling through all the cells in the block at regular intervals, similar to the loading and unloading of a spring. The feature also keeps the NAND Flash memory free from any bad blocks that might occur as a result of limited blocks on the device.Error correction is a key feature of the DS1321E.
