Working Principle of DS1336

The DS1336 is based on a two-channel OR controller that supports both a buck and a flyback topology. In a buck configuration, one rail (the input) is higher than the other (the output). The OR controller uses inductor-discrete and high-side MOSFET switching elements to achieve the necessary current transfer from the higher rail to the lower rail, resulting in an efficiently managed system. In a flyback topology, one rail is lower than the other and the controller works in reverse, transferring current from the lower rail to the higher rail.

The onboard ideal-diode controller circuitry allows the DS1336 to provide high-efficiency current control for both buck and flyback circuits, with zero-voltage switching characteristics and industry-leading efficiency levels. Additionally, the DS1336 features a programmable timer that allows users to set up pulse-width modulation (PWM) type, synchronousrectification and single-edge PWM.

The DS1336 also provides accurate power-rail monitoring, with two independent voltage pinsfor each channel, that can be used to detect changes in the power rail and make necessary adjustments. Furthermore, the DS1336 integrates a safe-start function that prevents the supply rails from starting up without a valid control signal. This helps to ensure that the power management system will not be damaged or misbehaved due to erroneous startup conditions.
