This is why the use of a secure, reliable and accurate timing reference is essential for modern processors and controllers. The DS1685SN-3 from Maxim Integrated is such a timing device offering reliable timekeeping for real-time tasks. The DS1685SN-3 is a real-time clock optimized for low-power applications. It combines a compatible PCF8563 Real Time Clock/Calendar (RTC) with an integrated timer and a PIN-programmable selectable power supply voltage between 1.6 and 5.5V.
