Description
The DS1688 is a small, low-power CMOS Real-Time Clock (RTC) and calendar integrated circuit with a serial interface. It contains a 32.768 kHz timing crystal and a low current, 10 ppm low-dropout voltage regulator. It also contains an 8-pin integrated circuit (IC) package with a 40-bit CMOS EEPROM Core, that can store up to four registers and up to 32,767 addressable bytes of non-volatile data. Additionally, the device includes a 128-bit hardware random number generator, programmable frequency output, and various alarm features.

Working Principle
The DS1688 offers an extremely accurate timekeeping over wide temperature ranges; only consuming 14µA at 3.0V (typical). The device is driven by an internal 32.768 KHz crystal oscillator that is connected to an on-chip low dropout (LDO) voltage regulator that is capable of providing high stability and accuracy.
