DS4560S-LO+T is a single-channel, low-side MOSFET gate driver from Diodes, Inc. Designed for hot swap applications to enable power supplies or components in telecommunications or server systems, the device provides many useful features, such as Channel Integrity Check™, temperature protection, debounce, and instantaneous over current protection (IOCP).

Working Principle

When using the DS4560S-LO+T, it is important to understand the fundamentals of its design and operation. The DS4560S-LO+T is composed of three major blocks: a high-side driving circuit, a low-side MOSFET gate driver and a temperature protection circuit.

The high-side driving circuit is responsible for providing the necessary gate drive voltage for the low-side MOSFET. It allows the user to provide control over the duty cycle of the low-side MOSFET gate driver, allowing for accurate current control. The low-side MOSFET gate driver is responsible for providing the source voltage to the drain of the low-side MOSFET. This provides the necessary gate drive current to turn the MOSFET on. Finally, the temperature protection circuit monitors the junction temperature of the DS4560S-LO+T, and provides an alert when it reaches a predetermined limit.

The DS4560S-LO+T is designed to meet the requirements of hot swap applications and offers many features that can benefit system designers. It is available in a space-saving SOIC-8 package and is hot plug compatible, allowing it to be used in high-density applications. In addition, it features an I2C interface and a pre-bias capability for fast start-up, making it ideal for high-performance applications.

The device also offers Channel Integrity Check™, temperature protection, debounce, and a unique over-current protection (OCP) feature called instantaneous OCP. The Channel Integrity Check™ capability permits hot plugging the channel to ensure channel integrity, while temperature protection limits the temperature of the external MOSFET to ensure safe operation. The debounce filter provides suppression of high frequency transients, while the instantaneous OCP system provides current limit protection that reacts instantaneously, even during hot plug operations.
