The DS9638CMX/NOPB is an interface driver, receiver and transceiver from Texas Instruments that allows various types of communication between two entities within a system. It has the capability to drive up to two independent transmission lines and provide a buffered output which can be used for various types of communication like RS-485, TTL logic and similar. The device also has a built-in surge protector with a four-wire differential pair connection.
The DS9638CMX/NOPB provides a galvanic isolation barrier between the two communication entities. UART interface, CAN bus, RS-232 and other similar type of communication can be implemented at the higher layer of the system. It also serves as an intermediate interface circuit between two separate systems and allows the transfer of digital data between those two systems. Surge protection is provided by an integrated short-circuit protection circuit. This circuit has the capacity to handle short-circuits up to 50V peak-to-peak. This circuit aids in isolating the two communication entities from each other and keeps the system safe from any damage caused by electrical surges present on the transmission line. Moreover, there is also a set of ESD protection diodes which help to further protect the system from high voltage spikes present on the transmission line.
The device is capable of implementing various high-speed digital communication protocols and also has the ability to sense and interpret various signals present on the transmission line. This makes it ideal for implementing various high-level communication protocols like CAN bus, RS-232, UART interface and others.
