Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are one of the oldest types of capacitors and the most common used today. They can be found in a wide array of industrial and commercial applications. The E32D600LPN273UEE3N is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor designed for use in power supplies, where high ripple current and low ESR requirements must be met. This type of capacitor offers excellent reliability, higher endurance, and improved thermal under-clocking when compared to other types of electrolytic capacitors.

The E32D600LPN273UEE3N combines two technologies with one design: aluminum electrolytic capacitors and solid-state contactors. Specifically, the capacitors are hot-heading Tantalum powder capacitors made with Tang Clad technology where the aluminum is electro-etch-formed, rather than separated into separated elements. The contactor has a solid-state, non-contact switch that is sealed in a polypropylene case when not in contact. The capacitor and contactors are integrated into one package, allowing for a higher power output than traditional aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

The E32D600LPN273UEE3N is designed for use in high ripple current applications such as power supplies, motor drives, lighting dimmers, switching power supplies, and instrumentation equipment. Its design includes an operating temperature range of -55 to +125 °C, unique materials for keeping the capacitor cool and reducing its ESR (equivalent series resistance) through NTC thermistor, and a Tolerance of +50% and –20% which ensures its reliability and stability over time.

The capacitor’s working principle is relatively straightforward. A voltage from an AC or DC source is applied across the terminals of the capacitor. The capacitance of the capacitor is determined by its geometry and the amount of dielectric material between the two plates of the device. When the power source is applied to the capacitor, the electric field generated between the plates attracts and repels electrons, thus creating a charge across the capacitor. This charge is stored in the form of electric potential energy, which is a measure of the energy held by the capacitor.
