The EL816 Optoisolator consists of a photovoltaic detector and an LED in a single package. When a current flows through the LED, light is emitted. This optical signal is then received by the photovoltaic detector, which converts it into an electrical signal, providing isolation between the input circuitry and output circuitry of the device. The photovoltaic detector provides a transistor output that can be used to drive a load.The EL816 is designed with a high level of insulation resistance, providing 1500 Vrms of insulation voltage across the photo-sensitive parts. The switching speed is determined by the LED current and the collector current, however the typical rise and fall times are 10 μs and 5 μs respectively.In addition, this optoisolator can be used in low current drive applications as well, as it is able to support current leakage up to 5 μA.
