An EP9307-IRZR is a system-on-chip (SoC) integrated circuit that combines a processor, a memory controller, IO controller, Serial ATA (SATA) ports and other peripherals in a single package. It is designed for hybrid radio applications using both analog and digital technologies. The goal of the EP9307-IRZR is to reduce the complexity and cost of radio equipment by implementing a full-featured radio-on-chip (ROC).

Working Principle
At the core of the EP9307-IRZR is an ARM-based microcontroller, which is configured to run on Kinetis-W series Cortex-M4/M0 processor. The processor is accompanied by integrated Dynamic Memory Controller (DMC), which helps in managing both static and dynamic memory operations. The ARM based Cortex-M processor helps in decoding instruction streams, perform operations and handle data and address buses.
The integrated timing module, called GEMINI-TIMER, provides support for a number of digital and analog Clocks, Modulation/Demodulation format, Traces, and multichannel audio. The integrated I/O controller provides support for interfaces such as ULPI (USB Low-Power Interface), I2C and SPI, as well as other audio, video and graphics. It also provides support for two USB 2.0 ports and SD card.
The integrated RF transceiver, DDS and DFS can operate in a variety of modulation schemes. The DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) module helps in quickly selecting the best frequency, which is available for the WLAN operation. The DDS (Direct Digital Synthesizer) module helps in generating a wide variety of frequencies needed for analog and digital RF transceivers and tuners.
The integrated radio transceiver supports multiple wireless standards such as 802.11a/b/g/h/j/n and Bluetooth, in addition to other digital protocols such as ZigBee, WiMedia, and WiMAX. The integrated radio circuitry supports digital modulation, allowing for high data rate wireless communications in both point-to-point and multi-node networks.
The integrated power management is used to maximize battery life and is capable of delivering up to 3.3V. The integrated voltage regulators, regulators, synthesizers, converters and controllers are utilized to efficiently manage the power management of the system.
The integrated peripherals provide support for a wide range of applications, such as Wi-Fi, WLAN, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and WiMAX, thus providing the EP9307-IRZR with the capability to handle a variety of communication protocols.
