EVAL-AD5687RSDZ Application Field and Working Principle

The EVAL-AD5687RSDZ is an Evaluation Board for AD5687R, a quad, 12-bit, voltage output digital-to-analog converter (DAC) from Analog Devices. It contains one of the latest high-performance DACs from Analog Devices, the AD5687R. The board is based on the AD5687R, a small-footprint, low-power, 2.7 V to 5.5 V, 12-bit device, and is provided with onboard buffered voltage references and reference buffers which can be connected to the DAC.

EVAL-AD5687RSDZ Application Field

The EVAL-AD5687RSDZ is designed for evaluation and development of applications that require accurate voltage outputs. These applications include industrial processing, signal conditioning, motor control, medical instruments, broadcast, communications, entertainment systems, and automotive. For example, the board’s output performance can be used in precision temperature sensing, hydraulic pressure measuring, gas flow sensing, and level sensing. Additionally, the board can be used for analog signal level shifting, DAC input voltage reduction, arbiter circuits, automotive instrumentation, audio playback and production, and variable duty cycle PWM.

Working Principle

The main task of the AD5687R is to convert an incoming digital data into an accurate and precise analog signal. The dual power supply configuration of the AD5687R enables it to provide an output voltage range from 0 V to VREF (5 V). The device uses a charge redistribution architecture to control the output voltage which keeps the output voltage stable for a wide range of digital values. The AD5687R contains four independent DACs, each with its own dedicated internal 2.7 V to 5.5 V references. Additionally, the EVAL-AD5687RSDZ board is provided with two low-noise, low-drift external references, an external buffered reference, and an external voltage reference. The external references enable accurate control of the gain and offset of the DAC outputs. The board also features seven-segment LED displays and a dedicated ground connection, and allows for direct connections to power and other devices. Furthermore, it takes power from either a single +3.3V supply or an external +3.3V supply. The EVAL-AD5687RSDZ board also includes a serial control interface which makes it easy to interface it with other systems. It includes pin headers for connecting to a microcontroller, an LCD display, and an LED indicator. The board’s user interface makes it easy to access the DAC’s output voltage, relative to the input digital data.
