The EVAL-AD5755SDZ is a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) Evaluation Board designed to evaluate the AD5755 fully integrated, low-power, wide-range adjustable voltage-output 8-bit DAC. This board helps system designers evaluate the performance of the AD5755 in such fields as industrial process control systems, automotive, programmable logic controllers, and communication systems. The EVAL-AD5755SDZ features a screw terminal board, an unregulated power supply connector, a 5mm x 5mm SOIC socket, and an isolated voltage output screw terminal. This evaluation board also integrates an on-board voltage reference, fuse, power-on indicator LED, and four-way toggle switches to enable the user to easily select the desired output voltage range and set the DAC.
The AD5755 is a low-power, wide-range, adjustable current and voltage-output 8-bit DAC with differential output stage. It has the necessary circuitry for a regulated power supply voltage, a clock signal input, an I2C serial interface and a parallel interface for external control. It is designed to convert digital patterns into analog signals in a variety of industrial, automotive, and communication systems. The AD5755 takes 8-bit digital codes and translates them into 0 to 5V or ±10V output voltage. The output voltage is user-selectable and can be programmed up to the programmed limit. This user-selectable voltage can be programmed up to the programmed limit within ±10V in buffered or unbuffered modes.
The EVAL-AD5755SDZ has two primary components – the AD5755 itself and the ADR441 voltage reference. The integrated voltage reference on the board provides a stable 0 to 5V and ±10V outputs. Its output has low temperature and power supply drift coefficients, with a minimum operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C which makes it ideal in harsh environments. The low-power feature of the ADR441 operating voltage allows it to stay within the supply voltage with no need for additional linear regulators.
The board also includes an I2C interface for digital communication between the DAC and the microcontroller. The EVAL-AD5755SDZ also contains two four-way toggle switches which allow the user to easily select the desired output voltage range and set the DAC. The board also contains two unregulated power supply connectors to powering up the ADR441 and the AD5755, as well as an LED indicator for power supply availability.
In addition to these features, the EVAL-AD5755SDZ board includes a 3.3V regulator for providing an isolated 3.3V supply and it also has several features that are geared towards safety, such as a pull resistor to ensure that the voltage reference output remains within the full-scale range, an over-voltage protection circuit for the board to protect it from voltages outside the safe operating voltage, and a power indicator LED to indicate power availability.
