The LM5033 is a generic controller family specifically designed to control current-mode or voltage-mode resonant converters with high precision. The LM5033SMD-EVAL is an evaluation board designed for engineers to evaluate the frequency range, output voltage programming, frequency tracking, loop response, and dead-time testing of the device.In the field of DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS, the LM5033SD-EVAL can achieve a high efficiency, fairly wide input voltage range, excellent load and line regulation, and high voltage accuracy. The LM5033SD-EVAL includes a reference design that provides high performance, low cost, and the flexibility of having multiple control parameter settings.The LM5033SD-EVAL has an adjustable input voltage range and can be ideally used for applications such as variable speed drives, adapter/chargers, server power systems, portable machines, and distributed power systems. This evaluation board can easily be connected to the other DC to DC converters, such as topologies like forward, flyback, half-bridges and full-bridges, without the need of additional components, thus saving time and cost.The basic working principle of the LM5033SD-EVAL is based on a fixed frequency operation and a constant OFF time control scheme. This control scheme provides excellent line and load regulation with fast transient response times and eliminates the requirement of a current sense resistor. The hysteretic control scheme is also enabled on this board, allowing the user to adjust the hysteresis level, therefore allowing the user to achieve higher current efficiency.The LM5033SD-EVAL operating frequency can be programmed up to 2.2MHz, which provides a faster switching frequency than the standard PWM controllers, thus reducing the size of the external components and eliminating the need for heat sinks. In addition, the frequency tracking allows the user to synchronize multiple controllers when transitioning from one operating frequency to another.The output voltage can also be programmed on the board with the help of a potentiometer or through analog voltage input. The board also has an adjustable dead-time control which allows the user to adjust the ON and OFF times of the converter to achieve higher system efficiencies.
