Eval-AD7730EBZ has been designed as an evaluation board to be used with ADI’s AD7730 18-bit SAR ADC. It can be used for evaluation and prototyping in a wide range of applications including medical test instruments, imaging systems, military systems, industrial process control, data acquisition and communications.The evaluation board provides flexible input signal conditioning and a selection of analog input ranges: ±10V, ±2V, ±1V, and 0 to 1V. In addition, the board features an on-board synthesized ramp generator, low power consumption, and a low-noise voltage reference with high stability. The board is also capable of single-ended and differential inputs, as well as 16- and 24-bit resolution modes.Working Principle
The Eval-AD7730EBZ is based on ADI’s AD7730 18-bit SAR ADC. This converter converts a single-ended input signal into a digital output signal in a specified range. It consists of an analog sampler, a digital filter, a reference generator, a track-and-hold (T/H), and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC).The analog sampler captures the voltage level of the incoming signal and stores it in the track-and-hold circuit. The reference generator then produces a constant reference voltage and the DAC produces a ramp which varies between the upper and lower limits of the input range. The AD7730 compares the incoming signal to the ramp voltage and stores the result in the digital output register. The digital filter then passes the digital output register through a digital low pass filter, which removes the high frequency noise from the signal. After filtration, the digital output is ready to be sent to the microprocessor for further analysis.Conclusion
