The EVAL-AD7738EBZ is an evaluation board for the AD7738 precision 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC). This board and associated software components simplify the evaluator\'s efforts to test and evaluate the performance of the AD7738 before integrating it into a design.The AD7738 is a very high accuracy, low power 24-bit ADC designed for precision data acquisition applications. It has an outstanding DC accuracy and fast sample rates combined with very low power consumption. The AD7738 is available in a modular 4mm x 4mm 24-lead LFCSP package, and operates from a single power supply of either +2.7 V to +3.6 V or a +2.7 V to +5.25 V. The EVAL-AD7738EBZ evaluation board is intended to evaluate the AD7738’s performance and the board can be configured to work with either performance range of power supply.The EVAL-AD7738EBZ includes two channels of analog supply inputs, AIN0+/AIN0− and AIN1+/AIN1−, to feed the two differential input channels of the AD7738. The board is powered by two +3.3 V regulated power supplies. The AD7738 is configured to operate in a variety of modes that include single-ended to differential, single-ended input only, and differential input only modes. There are two onboard 4 MHz crystal oscillators, one of which is connected to the ADC’s onboard clock input, and the other to the SPS pin, allowing synchronous transfers and data outputs from the AD7738.When combined with a microcontroller, the EVAL-AD7738EBZ can be used to evaluate the performance of the AD7738 in a variety of applications. Typical applications include medical systems, industrial test and measurement applications, and process control applications that require a low power, high performance 24-bit ADC.Working Principle
The AD7738 is a low power, high accuracy 24-bit ADC with up to 60MSPS throughput. The AD7738 uses successive approximation register (SAR) and chopper stabilization techniques to achieve its AC performance. The SAR is a charge redistribution technique that converts an analog voltage to a digital code by using a successive approximation cycle to divide the unknown voltage into intervals of known size. The chopper stabilization method is used to reduce the effects of 1/f noise and thermal drift.The AD7738 has two differential input channels (AIN0+/AIN0− and AIN1+/AIN1−) which can be operated independently or combined together to measure single-ended or differential signals. The input multiplexer allows multiplexing of up to four inputs and the input switching is managed through the I2C or SPI control interface. Data can be clocked in using an internal clock (INT_CLK) or an external reference clock (EXT_CLK). The AD7738 supports synchronous serial communications with selectable SPI and I2C clocks and also has a serial peripheral interface (SPS) for synchronous data transfer.The AD7738EBZ evaluation board has on-board, power regulator circuits for supplying a regulated +3.3 V power supply to the AD7738 in the form of a dual output linear regulator configuration. The board has two capacitors that are connected in parallel with each of the supply inputs to help reduce fluctuations in the power supply voltage due to noise.Applications
