Working Principle
The EVAL-AD7879-1EBZ evaluation board leverages the AD7879 precision, low current, 4-channel, 12-bit, low power ADC. The board is designed to easily interface to the AD7879. It and can be used with PC systems with USB or Ethernet connection.
The board provides an analog/digital signal switch and source selector. The source selector allows the user to select inputs from either the on board signal generator or from external inputs. The analog signal switch allows the user to switches between single ended input and differential input configurations.
In addition, the board provides adjustable offset and gain DACs. This allows the user to adjust the SET/RESET signal of the AD7879. The board also includes four control pins (FSL/FSR, OSHA, OSLA, and OSRA) which allow the user to control the offset and full-scale codes of the ADC.
In order to interface with the PC, the board includes an RS-232 serial port that supports 9600, 8, N, 1, and XON/XOFF settings. In addition, it feature a USB-supported Ethernet for data exchange with a laptop or computer.
The board is designed to operate with either the AD7879 or the AD9909. It allow the user to switch between the two devices quickly and easily. The AD7879 is compatible with 3V and 5V logic, while the AD9909 is compatible with 5V logic only.
In order to ensure proper operation of the board, the EVAL-AD7879-1EBZ includes various LEDs and jumpers to set up the correct configuration of the board. The LEDs are used to indicate when an external reference is present, when the BGT supply voltage is appropriate, and when the board is ready for operation.
The board contains the following components: a D-Sub connector, a USB 2.0-A male connector, a USB 2.0-A female connector, an Ethernet port, and two sets of BNC connectors. The board also comes with jumpers to set up the various board configurations. It also includes a schematic diagram and a printed label with the board specifications.
