Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits:EVAL-AD9838SDZ Application Field and Working PrincipleThe EVAL-AD9838SDZ is a complete single-chip signal source evaluation and demonstration board developed by Analog Devices, Inc. It is designed to provide an easy-to-use platform for evaluating and demonstrating the features and performance of the AD9838SP dual-channel, 14-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The board also supports the evaluation of the AD9838LS single-channel, 14-bit DAC. Application FieldThe EVAL-AD9838SDZ Evaluation Board is designed to provide a versatile, easy-to-use platform for evaluating and demonstrating the performance of the AD9838SP/AD9838LS. It is ideal for evaluation and demonstration of high-quality digital-to-analog conversion with a minimum number of external components.The EVAL-AD9838SDZ Evaluation Board is especially suitable for applications such as audio, instrumentation, telecommunications, radar, and medical imaging, where high linearity, high resolution, and wide dynamic range are required. It is also suitable for a variety of other applications demanding high accuracy digital-to-analog conversion.Working PrincipleThe EVAL-AD9838SDZ Evaluation Board operates by passing a digital signal to the input of the AD9838SP/AD9838LS. The input signal is then converted by the AD9838SP/AD9838LS into a continuous analog voltage in the range of 0 V to 2 V. The analog voltage output is buffered by an operational amplifier and filtered by an external passive low-pass filter to smooth the signal output. The buffered output is then presented to the external load connected to the signal output BNC connector.In the AD9838SP/AD9838LS, the supply voltage at pin 6 (VDD) is used as the reference voltage. The output voltage is then linearly proportional to the digital input code, with respect to the supply voltage. The on-chip output driver and an external operational amplifier buffer the output voltage and provide improved common-mode rejection. The low-pass filter then removes any residual noise from the output signal to ensure improved linearity and output stability. The EVAL-AD9838SDZ Evaluation Board has been designed to provide flexible programmable analog output current paths to eliminate the need for external current-mode buffers. This makes it ideal for applications that require high resolution, high linearity, and wide dynamic range.Furthermore, the EVAL-AD9838SDZ Evaluation Board also provides support for the AD5290 digipot and the SY7000C programmable voltage reference. These are used to provide adjustable gain and offsets on the analog output signal and also enable the user to easily tune the output signal to meet the specific needs of their application.
