The EVAL-CN0234-SDPZ evaluation board, is a high performance, small-footprint, low-cost, mixed-signal evaluation board that can be used to evaluate, validate, and test the performance of DC-based measurement equipment for multiple applications. The EVAL-CN0234-SDPZ evaluation board is specifically designed to facilitate and accelerate complex system designs for the selection, deployment, and implementation of critical sensors and performance parameters in a multitude of applications.
The board utilizes the CN0234 integrated circuit, an ADC with an integrated precision temperature sensor, provides high resolution measurements with a single supply voltage and is well suited for a variety of commercial, industrial, and medical applications that require minimized power consumption. The on-board temperature sensor allows for temperature compensation, as well as providing remote temperature measurement capability. The CN0234 also provides 8-bit to 16-bit resolution measurements with programmable gain and offset correction in a single system-on-chip solution. By combining the precision temperature sensor with the digital interface, the CN0234 supports direct temperature measurement with the temperature measurement technique, thereby eliminating the need for external sensors or additional temperature measurements.
The EVAL-CN0234-SDPZ evaluation board is capable of providing accurate measurements of multiple single sensor parameters, and is especially well-suited for applications that require remote temperature monitoring or precise temperature-compensated measurements. Offering an integrated I2C communication port, the board allows the CN0234 to acquire data and store it in a separate memory location for subsequent retrieval and analysis.
In addition to its capability to measure temperature, the board also supports a variety of common digital and analog sensor measurements including light, pressure, humidity, and acceleration. With multiple analog and digital outputs available, the EVAL-CN0234-SDPZ evaluation board is designed to be comparably efficient to a conventional data acquisition system with respect to system size, power, accuracy, complexity, and cost. Additionally, the board is capable of measuring a variety of input parameters with a resolution as small as 0.1%.
In order to evaluate the performance of the board, a digital output from the CN0234 is provided with an output rate of up to 1000 samples per second (SPS). An embedded microcontroller (MCU) receives data from the board and stores the data in a designated memory buffer. The MCU is capable of carrying out computationally intensive operations including filtering, averaging, numerical integration, and signal amplification. In addition to providing these capabilities, the MCU is also able to buffer and store data for extended periods of time, thus reducing the amount of energy consumed by the board.
Furthermore, the EVAL-CN0234-SDPZ evaluation board comes with an Input Capture Unit (ICU) that allows the board to measure the phase of an electro-magnetic signal with a resolution up to 4ns, making it ideal for precise time-stamping of measurements as well as for synchronizing multiple measurement devices. Additionally, the board features two analog output pins which enable users to connect the board to standard analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for conveniently reading out the five-bit digital values of the board, thus allowing for further expanded application use.
The EVAL-CN0234-SDPZ evaluation board is a powerful, yet cost effective, solution to the implementation of precise measurements in multiple applications. As a top-of-the-line evaluation board, the board offers an array of features and capabilities that make it ideal for high-performance and highly accurate measurements, without exceeding the budget of the consumer, or sacrificing the accuracy of the measurements.
