The following article will provide an overview of the EVAL01-HMC5840LS6 application field and its working principle.
The EVAL01-HMC5840LS6 evaluation board is used mainly in commercial applications such as point-of-sale systems, handheld mobile and industrial controls and Banking, Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) applications. It is used to evaluate the Honeywell HMC5840LS6G-X magnetic sensors, which measure the linear movement or force applied to a magnetic field.
The board is based on the Honeywell’s HMC5840LS6G-x which provides two axis sensing on a single device. It incorporates an Excitation Coil which is used to generate a powerful magnetic field and Sensor Element which measures the output from the Excitation Coil. The excitation coil is driven by an optimized balance of voltage and current from an external supply such as a battery.
The magnetic field created by the EVAL01-HMC5840LS6 is uniform across the sensing volume. It has two operational modes; Linearity Mode and Range Mode. In the Linearity Mode, the field of the EVAL01-HMC5840LS6 is constant and the Sensor Element measures the linear displacement of the field. In the Range Mode, the field of the EVAL01-HMC5840LS6 is adjusted to measure displacement over a range of distances, up to 5 meters.
The output from the Sensor Element is fed into an amplifier circuit, which amplifies the signal and converts it into a digital format for further processing. The board also contains an advanced Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) which samples and digitizes the output signal from the amplifier circuit. This data is then transferred to the microcontroller via a serial interface.
The data from the ADC is then processed by the microcontroller based on the programmed algorithm. The microcontroller uses the data to determine the desired output such as linear displacement, torque, velocity etc. The desired output is then sent to an external device connected through a serial port, allowing for remote control. The board also contains an external input interface to allow for programming of the algorithms.
The EVAL01-HMC5840LS6 evaluation board is a highly efficient, robust and easy to use evaluation board. It accelerates development time by providing a readily available and tested evaluation setup which can be used for a wide variety of commercial applications. The board can be connected to an external device such as a microcontroller for further processing and can be used for applications such as point-of-sale systems, handheld mobile and industrial controls and Banking, Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) applications.
