The FAN602FMX is an AC-DC converter integrated circuit, with a maximum power rating of 200W, designed to reduce cost, increase reliability, and maintain superior thermal performance. The FAN602FMX consists of an adjustable current regulator, a pulse modulation control “PWM”, a current sense circuit and a 0.01 Ohm high current Thermal Coefficient Device. The application area of the FAN602FMX converter is in power factor correctors (PFC), offline switchers, DC/DC converter, high-voltage motor drive, and automotive power systems.
The working principle of the FAN602FMX operates on the principle of closed loop, Pulse Modulation Control (PWM). This process enables power supply designs with high efficiency, reduced or no audible noise, and improved heat dissipation. In normal operation, the load current is compared with the reference current. If the output load current is higher than the reference current, then the duty cycle of the PWM is adjusted accordingly.
The FAN602FMX features the lead-current-mode controller and uses a current sense resistor for the output current monitor. With this feature, the design is able to achieve a high alignment of the output voltage in different load conditions. It also provides a highly accurate synchronous rectifier current sensing and a fast operating loop response in order to minimize the transient response without compromising stability.
The FAN602FMX also has a self-protection feature, which ensures reliable operation of the circuit even in fault conditions, while maintaining a safe limit of the motor’s temperature. This protection feature is responsible for avoiding device overshoots in no load conditions and excessive current in overload conditions. Should the current exceed the predetermined limit, the device will shut down, protecting the circuit from Circuit Over Current.
The FAN602FMX also includes a Thermal Coefficient Device (TCD) that acts as a thermal resistor. It measures the temperature of the device and adjusts its output accordingly to avoid over-temperature. It also compensates for the power consumption due to its thermal resistance. This ensures the device will operate reliably and safely in high-temperature environments.
