FAN6961SZ is suitable for applications like AC/DC adapters, AC/DC switching power converters, and Line-Regulated Converters, which require power factor correction. It is a high-performance PFC controller featuring integrated Fixed Frequency, Voltage Mode Control, reduced-component-count design, and wide voltage range operation. The primary function of the FAN6961SZ is power-factor correction as well as to reduce harmonic distortion in the mains voltage. It uses a bridge rectifier with an inductor (Ls) and a power capacitor (Cf) as the power stage at its input. The inductor is used to filter out components below line frequency, while the capacitor is designed to reduce harmonic components at the output. The FAN6961SZ uses a voltage-mode control architecture and has an integrated operational amplifier for the comparison of actual voltage and reference voltage. The current sensed by the resistor (Rs) is compared to a triangular waveform for controlling the switching of the power MOSFET bridge. This architecture provides a high power factor and low harmonic distortion. The FAN6961SZ also has an adjustable line feedforward path in order to increase the control loop gain. This increases the fast line transient response and reduces the total harmonic distortion even at low load.
