FT833B12-RT is a high-performance, current-mode high-side load switch designed for high-current application fields. With a maximum load current of up to 8A and an extremely low RDS(on) of only 1.8mΩ, the FT833B12-RT is the ideal choice in LED lighting applications, such as those found in street lighting, commercial lighting, automotive lighting and interior lighting. The FT833B12-RT is supplied in an SO-8 package and features a low-resistance P-channel MOSFET, integrated integrated gate driver, and a low-power standby enable signal. The FT833B12-RT offers superior current handling and reliability. It integrates a proven high-efficiency, low-noise integrated on-chip driver that controls and regulates current through MOSFET switches (or other devices) to provide improved efficiency, reduced power dissipation, and improved temperature performance. Its compact size allows for higher performance in tight space applications. It also provides superior transient performance and high frequency switching, and comes with an on-board bootstrap diode for easy over-voltage protection.

The FT833B12-RT operating modes are controlled by two enable inputs and two digital enable inputs. The two enable inputs control the turn-on/off switching and the two digital enable inputs are used to enable/disable low-power standby mode. In standby mode, all channels are disabled except for one output that is always enabled. This allows the device to maintain a low standby current.

The device’s internal circuitry is optimized for optimal performance, providing a high switching frequency that is well suited for LED lighting applications. It also provides fast turn-on and turn-off of loads due to a low gate capacitance and low turn-on/off time. The maximum power dissipation is improved through an advanced thermal management system, which allows for a maximum current of up to 8 A.

The FT833B12-RT offers multiple protection features that provide a high level of protection against over-current, over-voltage, reverse-battery and ESD. The built-in thermal protection circuits prevent potential damage due to high temperature and heat dissipation problems. The built-in protection circuit is also effective against over-current failures. In addition, the FT833B12-RT includes a soft-start circuit, which eliminates in-rush current at the turn-on stage.
