PMIC - AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers
The FT838R-BL-RT is an offline flyback converter with a wide voltage range of four input lines. The device has originated from Flytech Technology, which is a company that specializes in efficient power solutions. It provides a robust and reliable solution where high power and dynamic loads are required. The device has the highest rating of 30 watts, with peak capability of 150 watts.
The FT838R-BL-RT has a wide input voltage range from 85 VAC to 305 VAC, and an output voltage range from 0.6 V to 24V. It also has an adjustable turn-on and turn-off delay time and provides adjustable current/power limit protection. The internal power MOSFET improves output efficiency and eases system commissioning. Working Principle
The device operates in a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with a valley-fill technique using a Fly-Forward topology. In this configuration, the primary is diode-clamped and the active switching device (MOSFET) is integrated inside, allowing AC-DC conversion with minimal stress on the MOSFET. When the primary current increases to a certain level, the MOSFET is biased on and the current conduction continues until the peak current after the MOSFET saturation.
When the current is switched off, energy stored in the leakage inductance that flows through the diode, is swept back to the primary side and is recycled. Furthermore, a specialized region of operation, referred to as Valley-Fill, is provided. In this region, the inductor current is sustained to support the output current flow, especially during low input voltage conditions. This reduces power losses and improves the efficiency of the circuit.
The FT838R-BL-RT adopts the valley-fill technique to minimize the power losses. The turn-on delay and turn-off delay times provide adjustable current/power limit protection via an open drain failed feedback output. The FT838R-BL-RT uses an inductor that is designed with Zigzag or Daisy winding topology, which improves efficiency and provides an ultra-low EMI signature.

The FT838R-BL-RT is suitable for applications such as digital photo frames, LCD monitors, embedded systems, LCD TVs, thin client PCs, laptop and notebook adapters and PDAs. It is also suitable for powering video game consoles, TV box, and 3D LED displays.
