Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic Output, or H11A1SM, are optocouplers that combine a semiconductor switching element with an integrated optical component in a single package.
They are used in many applications, such as isolating signals in low-voltage/high-current motor drives, medical equipment, and in motion control systems. H11A1SM devices provide electrical isolation between two circuits while also providing electrical protection for both circuits.
The optical transmission path of an H11A1SM isolator consists of an infrared LED and a phototransistor. When a logic signal is applied to the LED, the light output from the LED is received by the collector of a phototransistor. This changes the electrical properties of the phototransistor, which then produces an amplified waveform. This amplified waveform is then fed back to the transistor-output stage of the isolated circuit, providing a logic signal.
The H11A1SM isolator provides electrical isolation without compromising the signal integrity. The two circuits are completely separated by the optocoupler\'s optical path, so there is no direct electrical connection between them. This provides superior reliability and allows signals to be transmitted over long distances without signal degradation.
The H11A1SM device also offers superior noise rejection and transient protection.
