H11B2-X009 is an opto-isolator from Texas Instruments. It consists of an aluminium gallium arsenide LED, optically coupled to a photo-Darlington output transistor. It is designed to provide galvanic isolation between a LED input drive and a transistor output. It offers high isolation voltage, wide operating temperature range, and low drive current. Working Principle

When the LED in the opto-isolator receives signal to turn ON, it radiates photons that are detected by the photovoltaic circuit on the collector side of the transistor. The photovoltaic circuit charges up a capacitor and, when it reaches the threshold voltage, the output transistor switches on and produces an output. Similarly, when the LED is in OFF state, the photovoltaic circuit stops charging and the capacitor discharges, resulting in the transistor gate turning off.

The photo-Darlington output transistor of the opto-isolator has a high current gain of more than 200. It offers enhanced performance at high load current and ensures decreased saturations voltage. The opto-isolator’s other advantages include high isolation voltage, wide operating voltage, low forward current and reduced package height.
