The H11B2 series optoisolator is a type of optocoupler developed for use in industrial applications. The device’s purpose is to provide electrical isolation between sections of a circuit, usually to protect the input side from interference, or to prevent harmful current surges. An optoisolator consists of two parts: an input circuit, which detects light and converts it into an electrical signal; and an output circuit, which amplifies the input signal, maintaining the isolation between sections.

The H11B2 series is available in transistor, photovoltaic output, and LED output versions. The transistor output version is capable of carrying, and switching, AC loads. The photovoltaic version provides DC isolation, capable of carrying highly sensitive load circuits. The LED output version is the fastest of the three, and is best suited for high-speed signal transmission.

The transistor output version of the H11B2 is the most commonly used for signal transmission. It consists of an infrared LED mounted on a phototransistor. The LED emits infrared light, which is detected by the phototransistor, triggering it to conduct current. When the LED stops emitting light, the phototransistor switches off, thus breaking the electrical connection. The transistor output H11B2 is highly reliable, capable of switching up to 20 kHz.

The photovoltaic output H11B2 consists of an infrared LED mounted on a silicon photodiode. The LED emits light, which is detected by the photodiode. This triggers the generation of a small voltage, which can be used to power and control sensitive circuits. The device is designed to provide a high degree of electrical isolation, and is able to operate at a wide range of temperatures.
