HER308-AP is a high power, high frequency, ultrafast recovery, single-phase rectifier diode. It is well suited for applications such as DC-DC converters, switching regulators, motor drives, inverters and high frequency circuits. It is designed with ultrafast reverse recovery time (trr) to reduce or eliminate switching losses and improve system power efficiency. This diode offers an outstanding high voltage capability with a maximum repetitive peak reverse voltage of 400V. HER308-AP also offers an ultrafast recovery time (trr) of 20ns making it ideal for high frequency applications. It also features high peak surge current rating of 20A and can handle up to 75A of non-repetitive peak forward surge current. HER308-AP is constructed with low voltage (25V) silicon chips encapsulated in a thermally efficient plastic in a 3-leaded surface mount package. This hermetically sealed package offers excellent thermal cycling and soldering reliability. The device is ideal for use in high frequency switching applications such as laptop adapters, telecom and data system applications. Working Principle The HER308-AP is a single-phase rectifier diode that allows electrical current to flow in only one direction. It works by using a reverse-biased junction that blocks current from flowing in the wrong direction. When forward-biased, the device allows current to flow freely in the forward direction. The device also features Schottky diodes to reduce the forward voltage drop.The device operates in a three-cycle period consisting of the Forward Recovery, Reverse Recovery, and Recovery Delay. During the forward recovery cycle, the device conducts current in the forward direction as long as the applied voltage is greater than the forward voltage drop. During the reverse recovery, the device blocks current from flowing back in the wrong direction and the capacitance is charged up. During the recovery delay cycle, the capacitance recovers and the voltage drops and the reverse recovery process starts again.HER308-AP’s ultrafast reverse-recovery time (trr) significantly reduces switching losses and improves system power efficiency. This device is suitable for DC-DC converters, motor drives, switching regulators, and other high frequency applications. It is constructed using thermally efficient plastic and hermetically sealed, and offers excellent thermal cycling and soldering reliability.
