The HMHA2801AR4V Optoisolator – Transistor, Photovoltaic Output is a high capacity, low price optoisolator device for transmitting data between circuits. The device has many applications including, but not limited to, high impedance input/output matching, data protection, surge protection, electrical isolation and power supply surge protection. The product features a very compact package, high speed switching, and high input/output impedance.

The HMHA2801AR4V is composed of an input LED optically coupled to a photo IPM module, and provides an open collector output transistor. The output of the device is a variable speed series of pulses each providing an optimum level of current controllable by the user.

The device has an active low logic design, where an input logic “0” will turn off the LED and deactivate the device, while a logic “1” will turn on the LED and activate the device. The control logic level of the input can be operated from either 3.3V or 5V, while the output control can be operated from either 12V or 24V.

The HMHA2801AR4V optoisolator – transistor, photovoltaic output has a wide range of applications. It can be used for general purpose data isolation between microprocessors and peripheral devices, data interface protection, power supply surge protection, and electrical isolation of any system where minimum power supply requirements are needed.

The working principle of this device is based on the electrical isolation of two circuits by utilizing light beams. The device consists of two parts; an optically coupled LED and an IPM module. When the LED of the device is activated with an input logic “0”, it emits light which is then released from the opposite end. This light is then received by the IPM module which then activates the output transistor.

The optically coupled LED has a fast switching speed and a wide range of control input, whereas the IPM module has an output control range of either 12V or 24V. When the LED is turned on, it emits a pulse of light which is then received by the IPM module. The light then activates the output transistor which in turn switches the output voltage to the desired value.
