ICS662M-03 is a linear video processing IC, specifically designed and optimized for capture, display and manipulation of low resolution television signals. It is widely used in security systems, automotive, medical and industrial applications.The ICS662M-03 is based on a “variable line length” technology that allows the user to select different coherent line lengths up to 864 pixels while maintaining the compatibility of the line scan. This feature makes it possible to enlarge or reduce the resolution of an incoming video signal without the need for any external scaling technology. The chip also supports the processing of NTSC and PAL standards.The ICS662M-03 is based on a multi-stage approach for analog video signal processing. The figure below shows the basic building blocks of the processing chain for NTSC and PAL video signals.![][1]At the first stage, the video signal is amplified, rectified and converted into a precise analog format. This is followed by an automatic gain control (AGC) stage, which is designed to ensure that the analog signals keep a given range. The AGC stage is followed by a filter stage, which helps to remove any undesirable noise in the signal.After the filter stage, the signal is decimated, down sampled and converted into a digital domain by an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. From this point on, the processing will be done in the digital domain. A powerful cascade of operations, including; scaling, line doubling, horizontal and vertical scaling, frame rate conversion and frame refresh, completely control the size and format of the digital video output.The ICS662M-03 also features additional features such as the array correction, distortion reduction and sharpness control. The array correction feature operates “on-the-fly” and corrects the size and position of the video output for better compatibility with capture boards. The distortion reduction, finally, minimizes the visible artifacts caused by the editing and conversion processes.The ICS662M-03 is a powerful and versatile video processing component designed for use in applications involving artifacts reduction, resolution adaptation,format conversion and refresh rate control. Its multi-stage design allows for high level of configuration, optimization and scaling accuracy.
