IRKC71/08A is a family of the rectifier diode array packaged discrete components to providelow on-state resistance and fast recovery characteristics. It is an ideal choice in many applications demanding low voltage drop, high speed switching and low conductionlosses. An array of two or four diode strings are embedded in one element. This makes IRKC71/08A a perfect choice when lesser space is needed to integrate the circuit without compromisingon performance.
However, due to its structure and design, IRKC71/08A can primarily be used in designingsecondary rectifiers in AC/DC power supplies, DC motor controls circuits, UPS systems,industrial converters, and other high-power switching applications. In addition, it is also anideal choice for bridge structures that involve four diode rectifier circuits.
The working principle of IRKC71/08A is simple in that it could help in converting an ACinput to a DC output. This is done by virtue of two or four independent semiconductorelements that are placed back-to-back as illustrated in the figure 1 below. When the ACinput signal is applied, the obtained diodes will turn on, thus enabling the electrical currentto pass in one direction only and then, converting AC to DC.

Moreover, these diodes also have an additional advantage that helps to reduce thevoltage drop across the device which then sources the current to the output stage. Thecombined voltage drops of all four diodes will reduce by a factor of two as compared to a single-diode rectifier circuit. As a result, it reduces the power loss and helps to maintainthe efficiency of the circuit.
In comparison to Si and Schottky diodes, IRKC71/08A presents a lower on-stateresistance, higher power ratings, reverse recovery times are much lower, and it possessesthe capability to handle peak surge currents up till sixty times its continuous rating. Thismeans that the device can source a very high output current without the need to increaseits size. In conclusion, IRKC71/08A provides numerous benefits such as low voltage drop,high efficiency, low power loss, greater surge current handling capabilities and improvedcloud life.
