The IRKT27/08A is a four-quadrant, bidirectional thyristor module that is used in applications such as motor speed/direction control, AC power controllers and as a general purpose switch. It is an ideal choice for applications where both power dissipation and media temperature are significant considerations. The IRKT27/08A can be used in applications where electrical isolation is required.

The IRKT27/08A is made up of two silicon-controlled rectifiers, or SCRs. Each SCR is composed of four layers of silicon. The top layer, usually called the anode, positively charges with current flow and the bottom layer, called the cathode, negatively charges. In between there are two gate layers, one which is electrically active and one which is not. When the active gate is stimulated with current, it acts as a switch and allows current to flow through the module, thus providing a proportional controlling effect.

The IRKT27/08A is designed to take advantage of the latest PWM tailored switching technology and can provide superior performance in high voltage and power applications.
