The IRPLHID2 is a low-power, low-cost, high-efficiency energy harvesting solution for the development and demonstration of energy-harvesting systems. It is the first of its kind, offering eight different energy sources and a total of eighteen ports for interfacing energy to energy-harvesting circuits. Two USB ports are provided for easy programming and data logging. The board comes with two separate components: the IRPLHID2 base board and associated plug-in boards.

The IRPLHID2 base board contains all the necessary circuitry to enable the harvesting of various energy sources like vibration, low-impact ambient temperature, low-level AC and DC current, light and heat. A polycrystalline solar cell is also included. The board is lightweight, durable and low-power, enabling extended operation in remote or hostile environments. Integrated circuits on the board can be powered either directly by an external power supply or by harvesting energy from the environment.

Using energy harvesting circuits, energy from the environment can be transformed, amplified and regulated to be used to power the sensors, A/D converters, and other components. This process is more efficient than traditional power supplies that draw current from batteries or other sources. The board includes all the necessary energy-harvesting components required for implementing most applications, thus allowing the user to enjoy the benefits of energy harvesting with fewer components.

The associated plug-in boards provide additional IO, power source selection, and debugging tools for energy harvesting applications. The plug-in boards include an A/D converter, LED indicator light, and a real-time clock, providing a more robust package for debugging, analyzing, monitoring and controlling energy harvesting systems. Additionally, the board enables integration of sensors such as humidity, temperature, pressure, and magnetometer.
