Working Principle of the ISL6152CB-T

Internal to the ISL6152CB-T is an integrated linear regulator, which operates as a current limiter in parallel with the power supply output. When the current limit is reached, the internal linear regulator reduces the output voltage, and the over-current condition is quickly identified. The on-chip current limiting feature prevents overloads that may arise due to external conditions such as faults, spikes or transients. Additionally, an asynchronous over-voltage protection feature is incorporated that is used to protect against spikes or other over-voltage conditions.

When the output voltage reaches the over-voltage or under-voltage thresholds, it is forced to the either way and held in this state for a predetermined period of time (dead time). During the dead time, the system is not allowed to switch on or off until the threshold has been reset. This ensures system protection in cases where the voltage returns to normal, rather than the system attempting to switch on or off while the output is unstable.

When enabled, the auxiliary regulator will sense the battery voltage and regulate its output to such a point that the under-voltage and over-voltage thresholds are forcibly kept at their respective high and low values.
