The ISL61863DCRZ provides a low-voltage hot-swap power supply protection circuit and is used for any applications which require reliable hot-swap operations and power management.The ISL61863DCRZ hot-swap controller provides a cost-effective solution by using two standard voltage supervisor components and two external N-channel MOSFETs. This design also combines fuse and crowbar protection in the same package, providing a simple and reliable hot-swap solution.The ISL61863DCRZ controls N-channel MOSFETs for hot-swap operations through two independent Control Signals: EN1 and EN2. When EN1 is asserted high (i.e. when the Input Supply Voltage is greater than the Hot Swap OVP Threshold), the FET is turned on. This condition is referred to as "ungate" mode. When EN1 is pulled low, an internal OVP comparator gives an indication of over-voltage protection. This will result in the FET being turned off and the voltage source being disabled. When the FET is turned off, the circuit is in a "gate" mode.The ISL61863DCRZ also includes a fault detection feature. If either MOSFET reaches its dV/dt threshold, the corresponding fault signal is asserted and the controller will turn off both MOSFETs. This will immediately terminate any over voltage or over power conditions. It is also possible to detect an over-current fault through the use of an external current sense resistor. The voltages of the current sense resistor and the voltage across the MOSFETs are compared using a differential amplifier within the ISL61863DCRZ. If the differential amplifier detects a high current fault, an over-current signal (OC) is asserted.The ISL61863DCRZ can also be put in a power-save mode by pulling the ENABLE signal low. This will turn off both MOSFETs and drive the gate voltages to approximately 0V. In this mode the controller will still monitor the input voltage and respond if the voltage reaches the hot-swap OVP threshold.The ISL61863DCRZ is suitable for a wide range of applications, including automotive, industrial, consumer, and medical. The controller has been designed to provide reliable hot-swap operations and power management, while also offering protection against over-current conditions. It is a cost-effective solution which provides fuse and crowbar protection in a single package.
