The ISL61863JCRZ-T is an Integrated Gate Turn-off Hot Swap Controller manufactured by Intersil and is a member of Intersil\'s Hot Swap Controller product line. This hot swap controller was developed to control the safe insertion and removal of hot-swappable devices, such as memory modules and I/O boards, into a live system right away. ISL61863JCRZ-T is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as in telecom, datacom, server, storage, automotive, security systems, medical, and many other electronics applications.The ISL61863JCRZ-T uses a switched-mode topology to control and limit the inrush current with accuracy during hot insertion and to protect the system during removal. It has a composed of two parts, a high-side and a low-side MOSFET with integrated HS and LS gate drivers, short-circuit and over-temperature protection circuitry, and a logic interface. The switching functions are handled by a linear regulator, which ensures an accurate output voltage independent of load current by setting a dedicated voltage across its output.The ISL61863JCRZ-T uses a low on-resistance MOSFET to reduce the inrush current and to complicate the system design with fewer components. This reduces the overall cost, size, and power consumption for the system. It has an integrated active current limit which allows shut down of output on an over-current condition and a programmable cable disconnect which allows the system to detect if a hot swap device is not correctly fitted.The ISL61863JCRZ-T is designed to suits a wide range of systems depending on the required safety conditions and output current. The device supplies up to 3A of current with active current foldback and temperature limit protection. It also has an attractive short-circuit protection feature which disables the output voltage should an external short circuit occur and a contact protection which automatically turns off the device when the hot swap device is removed.The ISL61863JCRZ-T has a typical output voltage range of 2.3V to 5.5V and operates at 0°C to 70°C. The device has an impressive power efficiency of 89.5% and is RoHS compliant.
