Working Principle

The ISL6207CRZ is a dual-channel high-side gate driver designed to drive the power switches of synchronous DC/DC converters in a range of high-power applications. The device is composed of a clever combination of analog and digital circuitry. It features an internal level shifter, an opening crossing detection circuit, an internal charge pump, and a current sense circuit that can detect an over-current condition in the power switch.

The device is connected to the power switches of the synchronous DC/DC converter via its two high-side gate drivers. The gate drivers are capable of delivering 7ns edge speeds with a typical gate charge of only 215nC. The high-side gate drivers also have provision for reverse voltage protection and a Schmitt-trigger input for improved noise immunity.

The ISL6207CRZ also features a level-shifting circuit with an internal low-pass filter that is designed to prevent oscillations. The level-shifting circuit allows the device to be operated over a wide range of input voltage with improved efficiency. The level-shifting circuit also provides useful protection against over-voltage conditions.

The device also has a high-speed internal charge pump to provide an enhanced gate drive voltage, while the integrated current sense circuitry is designed to detect an over-current situation in the power switch and further protect the system.
