Power Management

The ISL6611AIRZ-T is designed for the efficient management of power. It features an adjustable under voltage lock out (UVLO) circuit with programmable VMIN and VMAX thresholds that can be used to prevent current from being drawn from the power source when the output voltage drops below VMIN. It also has programmable thermal shut down and over current and inrush current protection (IPP) circuits with programmable On-Time, Off-Time and Short Delay thresholds, protecting the circuit from potentially damaging over-current conditions.

Working Principle

The ISL6611AIRZ-T operates in a similar way to most gate drivers. It uses a shift register and an open-collector output stage to generate the necessary logic-level signals for the control of the power MOSFET. It takes the logic-level signals from the shift register and converts them into voltage levels that can be used to drive the PMOS’s gate.When the device is enabled, the shift register will begin to cycle, producing a sequence of logic-level signals that switch between high and low states. The output stage then takes these logic-level signals and generate a corresponding gate voltage (high or low) for the PMOS’s gate. When the voltage reaches its final state, the device can no longer switch the PMOS because it will be pulled up or down by the gate. To switch back, the shift register cycles through its sequence again, generating a different set of logic-level signals.This cycle will repeat as long as the device is enabled and the power supply remains within an acceptable range. The ISL6611AIRZ-T will also provide a number of safety features such as an adjustable under voltage lock out, programmable thermal shut down and over current protection, making it a suitable gate driver for many different application fields.
