Working Principle

ISL69158IRAZ uses a variety of techniques to achieve necessary input and output performance. The circuit begins with a high efficiency synchronous converter, which is followed by a linear post-regulator. The synchronous converter consists of a high frequency inductor (L1), two high voltage switching mosfets, two current sense resistors, and associated control circuitry. The linear post-regulator consists of a low drop-out linear regulator (LDO) with a reference voltage provided by a bandgap reference.

The first step of the converter creates DC-DC conversion by synchronously buck-boosting the input voltage, depending on the output voltage desired. The current sensing resistors help in controlling the output voltage, while the control circuitry manages the turn-on a turn-off timing of the mosfets, depending on the output voltage control requirement. The LDO provides additional precision control to the output voltage level.
