Working Principle

The ISL80111IRAJZ-T is an emitter-follower linear voltage regulator with a P-channel MOSFET as its active device. The input voltage is applied to the gate of the P-channel MOSFET and the source of the transistor is connected to ground. When the input voltage is greater than the output voltage, current flows from input to output and the gate-to-source voltage of the MOSFET becomes negative, which causes the MOSFET to open and reduce the amount of current that can flow from input to output. This reduces the amount of current flowing from the input to the load and the output voltage is maintained at the desired set point.

When the operating conditions become unstable, the current limiter of the ISL80111IRAJZ-T will reduce the output current to a safe level to prevent device failure. It also provides short-circuit protection, which shuts down the device when the output current exceeds the maximum junction temperature or exceeds the preset current limit.
