KA7809ERTF Application Field and Working Principle

KA7809ERTF is a linear voltage regulator, which is mainly used in fixed voltage regulations. It is a low drop adjustable regulator, and is quite efficient in energy consuming and generating a stable output voltage which is either above or below the input voltage.

Its main application field includes input voltage regulation, battery operated devices, switching regulators or other low power applications, intelligent charging and low noise linear regulators.

The KA7809ERTF has 3 pins, respectively VIN, VOUT, and GRND. VIN is the input voltage, which is connected to the power supply; VOUT is the output voltage, which is the stabilized voltage generated by the IC chip; GRND is the ground, which is connected to the ground of the related components.

Basically, the KA7809ERTF inherited all the advantages from its family (7809ER), such as low dropout voltage, low power consumption and low noise. Due to these features, it is generally used in low output current applications, such as low power media players, LED indicators or battery operated.

Working on an Adjustable Voltage Regulator, the KA7809ERTF starts by comparing the reference voltage at the Error Amplifier output to the voltage on the Adjusting pin. The difference between the two are being amplified and sent to the Darlington Transistor, which also consists of Transistor and Resistor connected in series forming a compound element. The Darlington Transistor will convert the voltage signal to current signal by the internal Resistor, which will then be fed to the output supplying the load with a stabilized output voltage.

The KA7809ERTF linear voltage regulator can handle the voltage range of 1.2V-37V and the current of 1.5A. However, when the input voltage is at the rated minimum or lower, the regulation will be done by using an external series pass transistor, as the output current will exceed the internal Transistor\'s maximum limit.
