PMIC - Motor Drivers, Controllers - The L6225DTR is a low voltage, low ripple dual H-bridge motor driver power IC controller with a wide range of applications. In particular, it is used in multi-axis motor applications, such as in robotics, for precision control of stepper, brushless DC and brush DC motors. It offers high integration, low power consumption and thermal protection for enhanced safety.

The L6225DTR has two independent internal half-bridges, each with two outputs. Each output is capable of sinking or sourcing current up to 1.5A RMS, enabling high efficiency in a wide range of motor applications. The device features a current sense amplifier, allowing precise control of motor current and operation. It also includes a diagnostic circuit with programmable speed error detection and temperature detection to detect levels of overheat, motor stall or motor slipping.

At the heart of the L6225DTR is the advanced protection circuit, designed to protect both the driver and the motor from overheating and short circuits. It contains several adjustable safety features, such as an overcurrent protection (OCP) detection circuit which uses a current sense amplifier to detect and shut off control signals in the presence of excess current, and a self-latent shutdown timer to protect against prolonged overcurrent and/or over temperature conditions. The timer is adjustable via an external resistor.

In addition, the L6225DTR features a dual-mode thermal protection mechanism, which uses both over-temperature (OTP) and average temperature (ATP) detection to prevent motor and driver overheating, while ensuring the effectiveness of OTP trips. This is particularly useful in wide temperature range applications. Finally, the device includes an integrated latch-off circuit which will shut off motor control signals should either overcurrent or overtemperature conditions persist for too long, as indicated by the self-latent shutdown timer.
