PMIC - Motor Drivers, Controllers
The L6228D is a DMOS precision full bridge driver designed specifically to drive solenoid,motor and piezoelectric actuators. It is capable of delivering up to 2A in rising and falling phase.
The L6228D is built using advanced dual high voltage PowerMOS technology. The device includes two independent, complementary power bridges. Each bridge is composed of two DMOS totem-pole transistors that are equipped with an independent under voltage lock-out circuit. The power bridges feature shoot-through current protection, allowing the device to provide greater output power and robustness.
Application field
The device has been primarily designed for driving small, medium and especially large motors, as well as to drive piezoelectric actuators and solenoids.
The L6228D offers superior noise handling during the application of the power. This makes it the ideal choice for intermittent motor control, where a high-performance switching action is required. The L6228D is also capable of providing low power consumption in Standby Mode, thus it can be used in battery-powered and ultra-low power applications.
The device can also be used in robotics, automotive and industrial control. The L6228D is capable of isolating and controlling external signals for applications that require full bridge-ground isolation, such as power-based differential signals and pulse-width modulation.
Working Principle
The L6228D is a full bridge driver. Each bridge consists of two dMOS transistors. The input signals supplied to the device controls the upper and lower MOSFETs of the bridge. When the upper transistor is conducting, current flows from the output A1 to B1. When the lower transistor is conducting, current flows from B2 to A2. The polarity of the voltage across the bridge is reversed and the bridge is effectively switched off.
The device includes an under voltage lock out circuit, which prevents the device from functioning if the input voltage drops below a predetermined level. This can be detected and indicates an over current condition.
The device is capable of supplying a peak current of up to 2A in both the rising and falling phases. The device is equipped with shoot-through current protection which prevents output current from flowing under bridge switching. In addition, the device features an input signal impedance of 200Ω and outputs drives with an impedance of 100Ω, providing exceptional noise immunity and robust performance.
The L6228D is designed to be powered by a single unregulated DC power supply. This allows the device to operate in even the most power constrained applications.
