L7806ACV is stands for a three terminal positive voltage regulator based on the offerings of STMicroelectronics. This line is intended for use in the applications where low output voltage and current are required. It is considered as a part of the PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear family, which is normally utilized in order to regulate the voltage over the supply voltages of 6.0 to 32.0V. Moreover, this model comes with an extended operating junction temperature range from -40°C to +125°C and with lower capacities of noise and ripple. Therefore, this device can be a good option for many industrial and non-industrial applications.
The L7806ACV voltage regulator is built up by an integrated circuit with a reference voltage of 1.24V, which has the capability to deliver up to 1A of the output current and 0.061V of the line regulation on the supply voltage. In addition to that, this model can offer over-voltage protection and short-circuit protection with current limitations in a pop. Furthermore, it is also featured with a transient response of the output voltage that is optimized for the range of 10mV/µs.
Besides all those aforementioned salient features, it also encompasses a self-protection that ensures the safety of the regulator in case of severe over-temperature. This product has also got many other features like hysteretic control, thermal protections, current limiter, and open loop compensation. Talking about the working principle behind the L7806ACV, it generates the regulated output voltage through the combination of the PMOS pass transistor and the internal reference. In the first stage, the reference voltage is compared with the feedback voltage derived from the output which in turns controls the gate of the PMOS pass transistor. As a result of this, the pass transistor will act as a voltage regulator by regulating the output voltages.
