Its working principle is fairly simple, and it is comprised of basic components.

The L7805CDT operates on the fundamental principle of using a voltage reference. This voltage reference can be derived from several potential sources, including Zener diodes, batteries or pots. A negative feedback loop is created using this reference as the point at which the output voltage should be tracked. As the output reaches the reference voltage, the feedback loop automatically adjusts the drive current in the voltage regulator so that the output voltage remains the same.
