The L7815ABP Voltage Regulator is a member of the Linear voltage regulator category of Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) products. It is designed to regulate and provide fixed output voltages in the range of 1.2V to 37V with very low dropout voltage. It is a monolithic integrated circuit (IC) with a built-in Output current capability of up to 1.5A. The L7815ABP is a positive voltage regulator which can be used to provide an efficient and cost-effective voltage regulation and current limiting solution for your system.
The L7815ABP is a 3-terminal device with an input that is connected to the supply voltage of up to 40V. The output is connected to the load for delivering the regulated voltage and the third terminal is connected to ground. It features a low dropout voltage of only 0.3V, making it ideal for applications that require high efficiency. In addition, it has internal protection in case of short-circuits or over current situations. Furthermore, the device can also be current and temperature limited.
The adjustable mode of operation is available with the L7815ABP; it enables the user to adjust the output voltage from 1.2V to 37V using an external voltage divider. The IC operates under Normal operating temperature range of –40°C to 125°C. For higher temperature applications, an optional Thermal Overload Protection can be provided and the temperature range of operation can be extended to – 20°C. When enabled, the Thermal Overload Protection will protect the device from thermal runaway scenarios.
The output of the L7815ABP is Output current limited and short-circuit protected. If the voltage on the output is shorted to ground, the device has current-limiting protection that prevents it from drawing excessive current. In addition, the Over-voltage protection feature prevents the output voltage from rising beyond the absolute maximum rating. The device is protected against reverse-battery conditions and in case of reverse-battery conditions, the current-limiting will be disabled. This feature makes it suitable for automotive applications.
