Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are essential components in electronic circuits, with both positive and negative electrodes made of aluminum foil. Working Principle

An aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of a metalized paper or film, an electrolyte and two electrodes. The metalized paper or film acts as the dielectric and is impregnated with the electrolyte and wound into a roll. The electrodes are then foil-wrapped around this roll and soldered to terminal pins. The two electrodes are made of aluminum foil, and the electrolyte forms a layer between them.

When a voltage is applied between the two electrodes, the electrolyte forms an electric double layer at the interface between the two planes. This layer is created by the movement of ions, which act as conductors of electric current. The formation of the electric double layer leads to a decrease in the effective capacitance of the capacitor. As the voltage increases, the capacitance continues to decrease until it reaches a minimum value known as the "lower capacitance limit".

At the same time, the resistance of the electrolyte increases with increasing voltage. This is due to the increased polarizability of the electrolyte and the higher frequency components of current being blocked by the double layer capacitance. This increase in resistance leads to a decrease in the effective ripple current of the capacitor, and thus a lower ESR value.

The LAR2W271MELC30 has a low ESR value of 4.5 ohms, which allows it to handle higher current without the risk of overheating.
