LD1117D33TR is a voltage regulator integrated with adjustable low ripple output. It belongs to a family of low dropout linear voltage regulator. LD1117D33TR takes a minimum of 200 mV dropout at full load current of 1.5 A. It has a maximum output of 33 V. It is provided in 3-lead SOT-223 packages and a 9-lead TO-220 packages. Working Principle of LD1117D33TR

LD1117D33TR is a typical linear voltage regulator. It starts working with a reference voltage and output voltage set by an external divider network The difference between the input and the output voltage is called the dropout voltage. Its working principle can be separated into two steps. The first step is the regulation of the input voltage to the reference voltage. The second step is the control of the output voltage through the process of error-amplification. According to the internal reference voltage, a fixed bias current will supply to the error amplifier. If the output voltage is lower than the expected value, the error amplifier amplifies this variation, and drive the set transistor to allow more current pass through, thus increasing the voltage at output terminal.

When the output voltage reaches the desired value, the feedback network will work to negative the error amplifier. The current is draw, and the output voltage is stable. However, when an overload or fault current flows, the output current protection circuit will be triggered, the error amplifier will sink current to the set transistor, thus keeping the output voltage in a safe value.
